Why I'm not on LinkedIn
If you came here looking for my profile, there isn't one. This site replaces it — my background, my case studies and my CV are all here. Here is the reasoning, because it's a fair thing to ask.
First, the important part: this is not a moral position, and not a judgement of anyone who does use it. I was there too, and it did get me good jobs. I know plenty of people can't afford to do without the platform, and that leaving it is, in large part, a privilege.
That said, today I choose not to be there, for concrete reasons.
I find it harder and harder to accept the logic of putting my career history, my contacts and my professional activity on a platform that monetises that information for purposes I neither control nor fully understand.
The feed doesn't surface what is most relevant or most true — it surfaces whatever will keep me scrolling. That distorts your picture of the job market, and ends up being noise rather than information.
I have no way of knowing with any certainty what is done with my data, who it is shared with, or how long it is kept. The fine print on platforms like this doesn't clear that up.
At one point I was asked for my national ID document simply to hold an account — not for a specific hiring process, but as a condition of the platform itself. I'm not handing over that document in exchange for a profile, and I don't trust that it would be safeguarded properly.
There are more and more fake job postings, used to scrape applicant data, and more and more AI-generated content that adds neither real information nor genuine thought.
And something more fundamental
Beyond those specific points, I'm in a period of thinking about how I want to present myself online and what I want to work on. I don't consider myself a luddite in the slightest, but I do want to be deliberate about where I am, where I'm not, and why. I want to be able to choose who holds my data.
Again: no judgement of anyone who is on these platforms. The game is set up a particular way and everyone navigates those rules as best they can. I, today, choose not to play.
